FAQ

Q: What is the Teacher-to-student ratio in each classroom? One teacher to six children.

Q: What is the daily routine? Each day, when the children arrive, they have a choice between several creative, open-ended activities. The morning (7 am - 1 pm) and the afternoon (after 3 pm) have scheduled daily routines, including age-appropriate free play, group time, snacks, and outdoor play. The children have their lunches around noon. Quiet/rest time between 1-3 pm.

Q: Does my child need to be potty trained? Omee School does not require your child to be potty trained before entering the program. When teachers or parents see signs of readiness and interest in using the potty, we will work to reinforce and encourage toilet training here at school. Parents and teachers are working together with the child to make this transition.

Q: How does Omee School handle challenging behavior? At Omee School, we see the word “discipline” as “instruction” or “teaching” rather than punishment. During these times, we believe it is crucial not to judge, shame, or humiliate a child but to take this opportunity to practice and help the children toward self-regulation; regulating thoughts, feelings, and actions is not easy for children. We guide them to recognize and verbalize their feelings and thoughts. Teachers will assist the children in developing self-regulation through redirection, role modeling, prevention, limit setting, natural consequences, and encouragement.

Q: Do you provide lunch or snacks for the children? We ask families to send a nutritious lunch to school. We will provide morning & afternoon snacks & fresh fruits.

Q: Is my child safe at school? At Omee School, we prioritize creating a safe environment for your child. Our teachers and staff have a Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification. We take the potential for earthquakes very seriously. Teachers hold monthly fire and earthquake drills. So that your child will know what to do in an emergency. We practice evacuation drills twice a year as well. Could you please provide a 3-day supply of food, water, and other emergency supplies for your child to be kept in school? In case of a major earthquake, teachers and staff will stay at school with the children until everyone has been picked up (even if it takes several days).
